SECTIONAL DOORS - RESIDENTIAL INSULATED STEEL
PART I GENERAL
1.01 SUMMARY
A. Sectional doors shall be Model 1200, 1500 manufactured by Amarr Garage Doors, 5931
Grassy Creek, Winston-Salem, NC 27105. Telephone: (336) 744-5100. Fax: (336) 744-0895.
1. Provide WeatherGuard Plus (Model 1200) doors.
SELECT ABOVE OR BELOW.
2. Provide WeatherGuard (Model 1500) doors.
B. Mounting to be interior face mounted on a prepared surface.
C. Doors shall be insulated steel sectional overhead type. Each door includes sections,
brackets, tracks, counter-balance mechanisms and hardware to suit the opening and headroom
available.
D. Operation: Manual pushup.

1.03 PERFORMANCE AND DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
A. Provide sectional door assemblies designed to withstand the following loading
conditions:
IF PROJECT CONDITIONS REQUIRE HIGHER WIND LOADING, REVISE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH ACCORDINGLY.
CONSULT AMARR FOR SPECIFIC WIND LOAD APPLICATIONS
1. Wind loading pressure of 12.4 pounds per square foot (equivalent to 70 miles per hour).

1.04 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: Manufacturer's product literature marked to indicate products being
provided.
RETAIN FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH IF DOORS ARE TO HAVE ELECTRIC OPERATORS.
1. For doors with electric operators, submit electrical characteristics of operators.
B. Shop Drawings: Submit dimensioned prints showing critical dimensions, attachment
conditions, and relation to adjacent work.
1.05 WARRANTY
A. Amarr Company warrants, to the original purchaser, its products to be free from defects
in material and workmanship for a period of (1) year from the date of purchase, when
installed by qualified installation personnel in accordance with instructions from the
manufacturer.
B. Additional warranties are described in Part 2 - Products.
PART II PRODUCTS
2.01 DOOR SECTIONS
RETAIN FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH FOR MODEL 1200.
A. Steel sections shall be 2" thick sandwich construction consisting of exterior and
interior steel skins laminated to an expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam core with a urethane
adhesive.
RETAIN FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH FOR MODEL 1500.
B. Steel sections shall be 1-3/8" thick sandwich construction consisting of exterior
and interior steel skins laminated to an expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam core with a
urethane adhesive.
C Both steel skins to be separated by PRO-bond, a continuous rubber seal that forms a
thermal break. Steel skins shall be roll formed, hot-dipped galvanized (per ASTM A653-94),
Zinc phosphate pre-treated with primer and baked-on polyester top coat. Door sections
shall be constructed of 27 gauge (0.016 minimum.) exterior and interior skins. Exterior
skin to have woodgrain embossed texture, interior skin to have stucco embossed texture.
End stiles shall be 20 gauge galvanized, primed and finish painted in True White. All
stiles engineered for easy hardware attachment through prepunched holes. Galvanized,
primed steel support plates shall be made of 18 gauge steel (2-5/8" x 4-3/8")
and located under each hinge location, prepunched for hinge attachment. Section joint to
form weather tight tongue and groove joint. Polypropylene Wear-Seal attached between each
tongue and groove joint reduces noise, diminishes normal wear and tear on sections and
forms second thermal break.
1. Exterior Skin Design:

2. Exterior Skin Color:
SELECT EXTERIOR SKIN COLOR FROM THE FOLLOWING.
a. True White.
b. Almond.
c. Brown.
D. Finish: The door exterior and interior is prepainted steel consisting of a phosphate
coating over hot-dipped galvanization applied to the base metal. A 0.2 mil baked-on prime
coat is applied and then a 0.8 mil baked-on polyester top-coat is applied for ultimate
rust protection. The paint finish carries a limited lifetime warranty against rust through
due to film integrity (peeling) and against color performance (fading) and chalking to the
original purchaser. See warranty for complete details. The inside of the exterior and
interior skins is galvanized and finished with a 0.2 mil primer before installation of the
EPS insulation.

E. Insulation: 2" thick CFC and HCFC-free expanded polystyrene (EPS) laminated to the
inside of both interior and exterior steel skins with a special urethane adhesive.
Supported by a 5-year warranty against delamination of insulation from steel.
RETAIN FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH FOR MODEL 1500.
F Insulation: 1-3/8" thick CFC and HCFC-free expanded polystyrene (EPS) laminated to
the inside of both interior and exterior steel skins with a special urethane adhesive.
Supported by a 3-year warranty against delamination of insulation from steel.
G. Weatherstripping:
1. Provide 3-1/2" U-shaped vinyl bottom seal in a full-length 0.050"aluminum
retainer with a return leg attached to the bottom section with a fastener-free system for
safety.
ABOVE IS STANDARD. BELOW IS OPTIONAL.
2. Provide vinyl stop-molding (with vinyl flap) perimeter seal for header and jambs.
2.02 TRACK
A. Galvanized steel track shall accommodate 2" rollers. Bracket mounting is standard
for wood jambs. Vertical track to be minimum 18 gauge galvanized steel, inclined through
the use of adjustable 13 gauge galvanized steel brackets to assure weather tight closure
at the jambs. Horizontal tracks to be minimum 16 gauge galvanized steel, reinforced with
13 gauge galvanized steel angles as required by door size and weight.

2.03 HARDWARE
A. Hardware includes minimum 18 gauge galvanized steel center hinges and minimum 14 gauge
galvanized steel roller hinges. All rollers to be nylon for quiet operation. Two
galvanized steel step plate/lift handles provided on bottom section. All fasteners are
galvanized. All hardware is covered by a 3-year hardware warranty.
RETAIN FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH FOR MODEL 1200.
1. Galvanized struts (truss bars) supplied on all doors 20' and wider to prevent
deflection no more than 1/120 of the spanned width when in the open position.
RETAIN FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH FOR MODEL 1500.
2. Galvanized struts (truss bars) supplied on all doors 12' and wider to prevent
deflection no more than 1/120 of the spanned width when in the open position.
2.04 SPRING COUNTERBALANCE
A. Extension springs for door counter-balance are mounted and attached to the supporting
horizontal angle and back support of the horizontal track assembly. Each spring shall be
equipped with a device capable of restraining the spring or any part thereof in case of
breakage. Torsion springs for door counter-balance are mounted on a continuous cross
header shaft. Springs are oil tempered, helical wound and custom computed for each door.
Cable drums are die cast aluminum. Galvanized lift cable will provide minimum safety
factor of five to one. Springs to comply with NAGDM/ANSI 102-1988.
2.05 LOCK
SELECT THE FOLLOWING FOR DOORS THAT DO NOT RECEIVE ELECTRIC OPERATORS.
A .Provide 5-pin cylinder lock with interior lock bar and outside key.
FOLLOWING IS OPTIONAL.
B. Provide snap latch lock set.
2.06 WINDOW LITES AND DECORATIVE INSERTS
WINDOW LITES ARE OPTIONAL AND CAN BE INSTALLED IN ANY SECTION.
A Framed lites 18-1/2" x 11" minimum for short panel construction or
38-1/2" x 11" minimum for long panel construction. Provide SSB glass.
Screw-together or snap-together frame of PVC construction to match door color is used for
framing lites.
FOLLOWING IS OPTIONAL
B. Provide decorative PVC design inserts in color to match door color.
C. Provide DecraGlassª -Framed decorative lites 18-1/2" x 11" minimum for short
panel construction or 38-1/2" x 11" minimum for long panel construction.
1/8" real tempered glass. 2 designs feature brass came soldered together with lead
solder. 2 designs created with baked-in ink. Screw-together or snap-together frame of PVC
construction to match door color is used for framing lites.
2.07 SPRINGS
A. Provide standard 10,000 cycle extension springs.
B. Provide standard 10,000 cycle torsion springs.
HIGH CYCLE SPRINGS ARE OPTIONAL. CONSULT AMARR. IF HIGH CYCLE SPRINGS ARE APPROPRIATE,
SELECT ONE OF THE FOLLOWING.
C. Provide 25.000 cycle torsion springs.
D. Provide 50,000 cycle torsion springs.
E. Provide 100,000 cycle torsion springs.
RETAIN FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH IF DOORS ARE TO HAVE ELECTRIC OPERATORS.
2.08 ELECTRIC OPERATORS
A. Provide electric operators for electrically operated doors. Operator type and motor
size shall be selected by Amarr to suit door application and size.
B. Actuating Devices:
1. Push button mounted on interior wall.
FOLLOWING IS OPTIONAL.
2. Key switch mounted on outside door jamb.
PART III EXECUTION
3.01 EXAMINATION
A. Verify that dimensions are correct and substrate is in proper condition for
installation of sectional doors. Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory
conditions have been corrected.
3.02 INSTALLATION
A. Installation shall be by qualified dealer in accordance with Amarr's installation
instructions and local building codes.
