SECTION 08363 SECTIONAL DOORS - ALUMINUM PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 SUMMARY
A. Sectional doors shall be Model 3500 as manufactured by Amarr Garage Doors, 5931
Grassy Creek, Winston-Salem, NC 27105. Telephone: (336) 744-5100. Fax: (336) 744-0895. 1.
Mounting to be interior face mounted on a prepared surface. 2. Doors shall be aluminum
sectional overhead type. Each door includes sections, brackets, tracks, counterbalance
mechanisms and hardware to suit the opening and headroom. Standard maximum size is
12'2" x 12' for doors with aluminum or glass panels. Doors over 12'2" x 12'
require commercial steel ribbed bottom and top section with glass or aluminum intermediate
sections. Maximum door size with steel and aluminum sections is 16'2" x 16'. B.

PERFORMANCE AND DESIGN REQUIREMENTS A. Provide sectional door assemblies designed to
withstand the following loading conditions: IF PROJECT CONDITIONS REQUIRE HIGHER WIND
LOADING, REVISE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH ACCORDINGLY. CONSULT AMARR FOR SPECIFIC WIND LOAD
APPLICATIONS. 1. Wind loading pressure of 15.2 pounds per square foot (equivalent to 78
miles per hour). 1.04 SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: Manufacturer's product literature marked
to indicate products being provided.
RETAIN FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH IF DOORS ARE TO HAVE ELECTRIC OPERATORS. 1. For doors with
electric operators, submit electrical characteristics of operators. B. Shop Drawings:
Submit dimensioned prints showing critical dimensions, attachment conditions, and relation
to adjacent work. 1.05 WARRANTY A. Amarr Company warrants, to the original purchaser, its
products to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of (1) year from
the date of purchase, when installed by qualified installation personnel in accordance
with instructions from the manufacturer.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 DOOR SECTIONS A. Sections shall be 2" thick and comprised
of mill finish rails and stiles extruded from 6063-T6 aluminum to produce a door thickness
of 2". Center stiles will be 2-3/4". End stiles will be 3-3/8". Top rails
will be 2-7/8" or 1-1/4". Intermediate rails will be 2-1/2" per pair.
Bottom rails will be 2-7/8". All stiles and rails will be secured with 5/16"
diameter through rods. Panels will be 0.050" aluminum or DSB glass, held in place
with vinyl gasket and aluminum moulding. B. Weatherstripping: 1. Provide 3-1/2"
U-shaped vinyl bottom seal in a full-length 0.050" aluminum retainer attached to the
bottom section. ABOVE IS STANDARD. BELOW IS OPTIONAL. 2. Provide perimeter seal for header
and jambs. 2.02 TRACK A. Galvanized steel track shall be 2" or 3" as required.
Bracket mounting is standard for wood jambs. Continuous reverse angle mounting is standard
for steel jambs. Vertical track shall be inclined through the use of adjustable brackets
to assure weathertight closure at the jambs. Horizontal track shall be reinforced with
galvanized angles required by door sizes and weight. B. Track Type: SELECT APPLICABLE
TRACK TYPE FROM THE FOLLOWING. 1. Standard Lift 2. Low Headroom 3. Vertical-Lift 4.
High-Lift 5. Follow the Roofline 2.03 HARDWARE A. Hardware includes minimum 14 gauge
galvanized hinges and brackets. All rollers to have a 10-ball bearings with casehardened
inner and outer races. Sliding end stile locking device with spring-loaded bolt for inside
operation only. Doors 16'3" and wider will have double end hinges and stiles and long
stem rollers. Galvanized struts (truss bars) supplied on all doors 14'3" and wider to
prevent deflection no more than 1/120 of the spanned width when in the open position. 2.04
SPRING COUNTERBALANCE A. Torsion springs for door counter-balance are mounted on a
continuous cross header shaft. Springs are oil tempered, helical wound and custom computed
for each door. Cable drums are die cast aluminum. Galvanized lift cable will provide
minimum safety factor of five to one. Springs to comply with NAGDM/ANSI 102-1988. 2.05
LOCK
A. Provide interior sliding end stile lock with hole to receive padlock. SELECT ABOVE
WHICH IS STANDARD, OR BELOW WHICH IS OPTIONAL. B. Provide 5-pin cylinder lock with
interior lock bar and outside key. 2.06 GLAZING AND PANELS A. Aluminum doors are glazed
with 1/8" DSB glass panels or fitted with 0.050" galvanized aluminum panels in
continuous vinyl gasket and held in place by a snap-in aluminum bead. 2.07 SPRINGS A.
Provide standard 10,000 cycle torsion springs. HIGH CYCLE SPRINGS ARE OPTIONAL. CONSULT
AMARR. IF HIGH CYCLE SPRINGS ARE APPROPRIATE, SELECT ONE OF THE FOLLOWING.
B. Provide 25,000 cycle torsion springs. C. Provide 50,000 cycle torsion springs. D
Provide 100,000 cycle torsion springs. IF EXHAUST PORTS ARE REQUIRED, RETAIN THE
FOLLOWING. 2.08 EXHAUST PORT A. Provide exhaust ports for the release of vehicle
emissions. Tubes to conduct emissions from vehicles to exhaust ports are not included.
RETAIN FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH IF DOORS ARE TO HAVE ELECTRIC OPERATORS. 2.09 ELECTRIC
OPERATORS A. Provide Link electric operators for electrically operated doors. Operator
type and motor size shall be selected by Amarr to suit door application and size. IF DOORS
ARE TO HAVE ELECTRIC OPERATORS WITH SAFETY REVERSING EDGES, RETAIN THE FOLLOWING
PARAGRAPHS. 2.10 REVERSING EDGES A. Electric motor operated doors shall be equipped with
electrically activated reversing edges (not pneumatic) as manufactured by Miller Edge,
Inc., Concordville, PA 19331. The switching function shall be performed by two flexible
Alumaglas contact strips separated by a soft perforated foam cushion. Reversing edges
shall be activated by 5 psi (nominal) pressure along entire span of door opening and
provide mechanical stops.
B. OPTIONAL: For optimum protection, Sensing Edge shall be of four wire electrical
configuration so that loss of continuity in the circuit will cause a closing door to open
and prevent an open door from closing. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 EXAMINATION A. Verify that
dimensions are correct and substrate is in proper condition for installation of sectional
doors. Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory conditions have been
corrected. 3.02 INSTALLATION A. Installation shall be by qualified dealer in accordance
with Amarr's installation instructions and local building codes. END OF SECTION
