PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 DOOR SECTIONS
A. Steel sections shall be 2" thick sandwich construction consisting of exterior
and interior steel skins laminated to an expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam core with a
urethane adhesive. Both steel skins to be separated by PRO-Bond, a continuous silicone
seal that forms a thermal break. Steel skins shall be roll formed, hot-dipped galvanized
(ASTM A-653-94), and Zinc phosphate pre-treated with primer and baked-on polyester top
coat. Exterior door section shall be constructed of 24 gauge (0.022 minimum.) steel and
interior door section shall be constructed of 27 gauge (0.016 minimum) steel. Both skins
to have stucco embossed texture. The exterior steel skin has 0.41" minor ribs on
4" or 5" centers. 18 gauge end stiles shall be galvanized and engineered for
easy hardware attachment through prepunched extruded holes. 18 gauge galvanized, primed
steel support plates (2-5/8" x 4-3/8") are located under each hinge location,
prepunched for hinge attachment. Section joint to form weathertight tongue and groove
joint. Polypropylene Wear-Seal attached between each tongue and groove joint reduces
noise, diminishes normal wear and tear on sections and forms a second thermal break.
Galvanized steel step plate/lift handle provided on inside and outside of bottom section.
B. Finish: The door exterior and interior is prepainted steel consisting of a phosphate
coating over hot-dipped galvanization applied to the base metal. A 0.2 mil baked-on prime
coat is applied and then a 0.8 mil baked-on polyester top-coat is applied for ultimate
rust protection. The paint finish carries a 10-year warranty against film integrity
(peeling) and against color performance (fading) and chalking. The inside of the exterior
and interior skins is finished with a 0.2 - 0.3 mil primer. C. Insulation: 2" thick
CFC-free expanded polystyrene (EPS) laminated to the inside of both interior and exterior
steel skins with a special urethane adhesive. Supported by a 5-year warranty against
delamination of insulation from steel.
D. Weatherstripping:
1. Provide 3-1/2" U-shaped vinyl bottom seal in a full-length 0.050" aluminum
retainer attached to the bottom section.
ABOVE IS STANDARD. BELOW IS OPTIONAL.
2. Provide perimeter seal for header and jambs. 2.02 TRACK
A. Galvanized steel track shall be 2" or 3" as required. Continuous reverse
angle mounting is standard for steel jambs. Bracket mounting is standard for wood jambs.
Vertical track to be minimum 17 gauge galvanized steel, inclined through the use of
adjustable brackets to assure weathertight closure at the jambs. Horizontal tracks to be
minimum 16 gauge galvanized steel, reinforced with 13 gauge galvanized steel angles as
required by door size and weight.
B. Track Type:
SELECT APPLICABLE TRACK TYPE FROM THE FOLLOWING.
1. Standard Lift
2. Low Headroom
3. Vertical-Lift
4. High-Lift
5. Follow the Roofline
2.03 HARDWARE
A. Hardware includes minimum 14 gauge galvanized steel hinges and 13 gauge galvanized
steel track brackets. All rollers to have 10-ball bearings with casehardened inner and
outer races. Sliding end stile locking device with spring-loaded bolt for inside operation
only. Doors 16'0" and wider will have double end hinges and stiles and long stem
rollers. Galvanized struts (truss bars) shall be supplied on all doors 14'2" and
wider to prevent deflection no more than 1/120 of the spanned width when in the open
position.
2.04 SPRING COUNTERBALANCE
A. Torsion springs for door counter-balance are mounted on a continuous cross header
shaft. Springs are oil tempered, helical wound and custom computed for each door. Cable
drums are die cast aluminum. Galvanized lift cable will provide minimum safety factor of
five to one. Springs to comply with NAGDM/ANSI 102-1988.
2.05 LOCK
A. Provide interior sliding end stile lock with hole to receive padlock.
SELECT ABOVE WHICH IS STANDARD, OR BELOW WHICH IS OPTIONAL.
B. Provide 5-pin cylinder lock with interior lock bar and outside key.
2.06 WINDOW LITES
WINDOW LITES ARE OPTIONAL. SELECT FROM THE FOLLOWING.
A. Framed lite 24" x 4" clear acrylic sheet.
B. Framed lite 24" x 12" SSB.
C. Framed lite 24" x 12" insulating glass.
D. Frame: Screw together of PVC construction.
2.07 SPRINGS
A. Provide standard 10,000 cycle torsion springs.
HIGH CYCLE SPRINGS ARE OPTIONAL. CONSULT AMARR. IF HIGH CYCLE SPRINGS ARE APPROPRIATE,
SELECT ONE OF THE FOLLOWING.
B. Provide 25,000 cycle torsion springs.
C. Provide 50,000 cycle torsion springs.
D. Provide 100,000 cycle torsion springs.
IF EXHAUST PORTS ARE REQUIRED, RETAIN THE FOLLOWING.
2.08 EXHAUST PORT
A. Provide exhaust ports for the release of vehicle emissions. Tubes to conduct
emissions from vehicles to exhaust ports are not included.
RETAIN FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH IF DOORS ARE TO HAVE ELECTRIC OPERATORS.
2.09 ELECTRIC OPERATORS
A. Provide Link electric operators for electrically operated doors. Operator type and
motor size shall be selected by Amarr to suit door application and size.
IF DOORS ARE TO HAVE ELECTRIC OPERATORS WITH SAFETY REVERSING EDGES, RETAIN THE
FOLLOWING PARAGRAPHS.
2.10 REVERSING EDGES
A. Electric motor operated doors shall be equipped with electrically activated
reversing edges (not pneumatic) as manufactured by Miller Edge, Inc., Concordville, PA
19331. The switching function shall be performed by two flexible Alumaglas contact strips
separated by a soft perforated foam cushion. Reversing edges shall be activated by 5 psi
(nominal) pressure along entire span of door opening and provide mechanical stops.
B. For optimum protection: In the event of a loss of continuity in the circuit, the
door will revert to manual operation. "Sensing Edge shall be of four wire electrical
configuration so that loss of continuity in the circuit will cause a closing door to open
and prevent an open door from closing."
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 EXAMINATION
A. Verify that dimensions are correct and substrate is in proper condition for
installation of sectional doors. Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory
conditions have been corrected.
3.02 INSTALLATION
